The Dark Side of Providence
Understanding the providence of God is essential as we walk in providence each and every day. In the story of Job we see a godly man who has lost everything - all of his wealth, his health (contracting a wasting disease), the respect of his wife, and the dependability and security of his life. The four outstanding qualities of Job is that he feared God, he shunned evil, he was blameless, and he was considered a righteous man. Though Job had many questions and asked God profusely, "Why?", he never ceased to worship and to praise God for His sovereignty over all things. Job was restored 100 fold not because he was ever without sin, but because he was faithful to God in all things.
Do you see yourself at times like Job? I'm sure we all have, and to think that God in His sovereign will has allowed affliction to occur in all of our lives is truly one of the great mysteries of Christian faith. However, through it all we never cease to worship and adore the Lord, and take to heart the words of Job when he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord."
